90 percent of brain development occurs by the age of five.
The time children spend at the Rollins Child Development Center will be a critical time for learning and honing a thirst for discovery. Learning must be a priority during this time, but not a chore. We have studied many of the sound educational theories of the past along with the most current brain research. With careful planning and assistance from noted educators, we tailored a sound learning process to guide us on our journey. The HighScope Curriculum will be the academic foundation for our learning process. Our lessons support the latest research, indicating that young children need to feel secure and supported as they learn to manage daily tasks. Our creative environments along with each child’s experiences are designed to provide security and support allowing children to develop the confidence needed for independent thinking. Our Teachers are trained and empowered to follow a process that will take children from basic understanding to more complex problem solving. Children learn best when exposed to educational experiences that allow learning to take place as the mind is stimulated. Providing opportunities that encourage children to take risks and develop autonomy and competence will be a strong focus at the Rollins Child Development Center.
The Learning Process
Our learning process, designed to support children on a fun filled educational journey, will provide opportunities to develop a love of learning. This process is referred to as the “Four E’s.”
Linked to the beginning step in meta-cognitive awareness, our process is known to encourage children as they become aware of their thoughts, actions and decisions. It is our goal to assist
children on their learning journey while supporting them as they begin their critical developmental process.
With a strong focus on literacy, the Rollins Child Development Center will support lessons that promote verbal, written and reading skills needed now and for future academic success. Our professional teachers will foster the development of the whole child including academic, social/emotional, physical and spiritual growth.
